Why Do We Use Two Different Irrigation Systems?

In our previous blog, we explained when we begin irrigating our vineyards and why there isn't a fixed date that applies every year. But timing is only part of the story—how we irrigate is just as important.

Many people assume that every vineyard is irrigated in the same way. In reality, every vineyard parcel has its own characteristics, which means the irrigation method may also differ.

At Meshkovi Winery, we use two different irrigation systems: drip irrigation and water cannons.

Drip irrigation delivers water directly to the root zone of each vine, making it an efficient and precise way to provide the vines with the moisture they need.

On some vineyard parcels, however, we use water cannons, which allow us to irrigate larger areas evenly. This method is a practical solution when the terrain or vineyard layout requires a different approach.

It's not about one system being better than the other. Each has its own purpose, and our choice always depends on what is best for that specific vineyard.

Our goal is simple: to provide the vines with the right amount of water at the right time while using water responsibly. That's why we carefully monitor weather conditions, vineyard development, and grape growth before deciding when and how to irrigate.

In viticulture, there is no universal solution. There are only thoughtful decisions made throughout the growing season, all with the same objective—healthy vines and high-quality grapes.
