When Water Matters Most

When people see a drip irrigation system, they often assume that vineyards are watered all the time.

In reality, that isn't the case.

The decision to irrigate is guided by nature, not by the calendar.

This year, we began watering our vineyards later than usual. Thanks to the rainfall during June and the relatively moderate temperatures, the vines received enough natural moisture for a longer period.

Only when the soil begins to dry and the vines need additional water do we start irrigation.

At Meshkovi Winery, we use two irrigation methods.

The first is drip irrigation, which delivers water slowly and directly to the roots of each vine. This allows us to provide only the amount of water the vines truly need while using water responsibly.

During a typical season, our vineyards are usually irrigated two or three times, although this always depends on the weather. Every growing season is different, and nature ultimately decides the schedule.

In one of our upcoming blog posts, we'll introduce the second irrigation method we use—water cannons—and explain when and why they become the better choice.

Because every drop of water has one purpose: helping the grapes reach their full potential.
