Long ago, in ancient Athens, there lived a man named Ikarius.

One day, a mysterious stranger arrived at his home. Ikarius welcomed him with kindness and hospitality, unaware that the man standing before him was Dionysus – the god of wine.

As a reward for his generosity, Dionysus gave Ikarius something extraordinary – a grapevine.
But the gift was more than just a vine.
Dionysus taught Ikarius how to cultivate it, harvest its grapes and transform them into wine.
Ikarius had discovered a secret that few had ever known.

But he did not keep it for himself.
He wanted to share wine with others.
One day, Ikarius came across a group of shepherds and offered them the new drink.
They enjoyed the wine and kept drinking, unaware of its effects.
Soon, they became drunk and fell asleep.

When they awoke, confused and frightened, they believed that Ikarius had poisoned them.
Driven by fear and anger, they killed him.
But the story did not end there.

His daughter, Erigone, began searching for her father. She was accompanied by their loyal dog, Maira.
Following Maira, Erigone eventually discovered where Ikarius had been hidden.
The grief was overwhelming.

According to the legend, the tragedy angered Dionysus himself. Yet instead of disappearing with their deaths, Ikarius, Erigone and Maira were given a place among the stars.
Ikarius became associated with the constellation Boötes, Erigone with Virgo, while their loyal dog Maira was also placed among the stars.
And so, one of the ancient stories connected to wine ends in the night sky.
A man received a vine as a gift.
He shared it with the world.
And, according to the legend, his story reached the stars.

Perhaps that is why wine has always been more than a drink – it is a story passed from one person to another, from one generation to the next.
